Is this barcode generator free?

Yes. Make and download barcodes as PNG, SVG or PDF without an account. Each file has a small “Made with Tamvya” line under the barcode. Nothing is saved here: to make the barcode again, type the number again.

Can I make up a barcode number?

Not for products sold in shops. Shops scan the number to find your product, so it has to be a number your business got from GS1: copy it from your GS1 certificate. This page never makes up a number, and when the last (check) digit is wrong it tells you and lets you choose the right one. For your own codes, such as shelves, stock or tickets, any letters and numbers are fine.

Which kind of barcode do I need?

For a product sold in shops, the 13-digit EAN-13 (or the 12-digit UPC-A in the US and Canada; the 8-digit EAN-8 only if GS1 gave you one for a very small pack). For a carton of products, the 14-digit ITF-14. For your own codes, Code 128. For a website or a phone number, a QR code. Not sure what you have? Check it in the barcode checker.

PNG, SVG or PDF: which should I download?

PNG is a picture at 300 dpi that works in Word, Canva and most label software. SVG stays sharp at any size, for designers and print shops. PDF is one page the size of the barcode, to print at 100% (actual size).

Will my barcode scan?

The barcode is drawn by Tamvya’s barcode engine at the size shown, with the white space round it that scanners need. Print one at 100% (actual size, not “fit to page”) and scan it with the scanner it’s meant for before you print many. This page checks the number, not a printed barcode; it isn’t a GS1 certification or a print-quality grade.
